Good morning, and welcome to a new blog series here on my website. Today, for our first edition, we are focusing on a verse that stuck out to me from my own reading. It is taken from 1 Samuel; and I want to share it with you in my two favorite versions:
1 Samuel 1:15 (NIV) ~ "Not so, my lord," Hannah replied, "I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord."
1 Samuel 1:15 (KJV) ~ "And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord."
This verse is taken from the time Eli, the priest, mistook Hannah's fervent prayers for words of a drunk woman. Thankfully, that was not true, but she was hurting and talking to God about her deep desire for a child. Now, you and I may not be praying for a child (or you may be): but we all ache for things. So, lean into the fact that talking to God, seeking Him until we look crazy, and pouring ourselves out, is nothing new. People will always need Jesus.
And He always listens.
So, with me, pour your soul to the Lord, because He hears and He cares.
